Flora Macdonald Highland Games

Southern hospitality with a taste of Scotch.

The Flora Macdonald Highland Games were started in 1977 to commemorate our Scottish heritage resulting from the influence of the Scottish Immigrants to the Cape Fear region of North Carolina. Our Games are held the first weekend in October on the Flora Macdonald Campus.

At our Highland Games, one will see a likeness of the early gatherings of the clans where the people of the community came together to judge the most athletic along with determining the best in other activities such as dancing. Highland Games are now held, not only in Scotland, but throughout the United States and Canada.

Colin Grant-Adams - Performing for the first time at the Flora Macdonald Games this year. Colin, born and raised near Winchester, England in a predominantly Scottish community, was exposed to the culture and heritage that would shape his career. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, and a gifted musician himself, Colin’s father was an early influence on his musical career.

This musical performance is a tribute to Scotland in song and stories from the battle songs of a distant land, the haunting beauty of her misty covered glens, to the exploits of the people. Take the three Scottish tenors and roll them into one, you have Colin Grant-Adams this phenomenal Scots entertainer, with his exuberating
vocals, intricate fiery guitar and irresistible humor holds his audiences spellbound. Colin has performed on the Stages of Carnegie Hall to concert venues and festivals
around the world with time honored classics “Scotland The Brave”, “These Are My Mountains” in the styles of Harry Lauder & Kenneth MacKellar, to his own original
and contemporary works, “Scottish American”& “Soldier Of War Soldier Of Peace.”Stephen Holden of the New York Times says Colin is “a spirited spokesman of a vigorous Scots tradition that is unabashed in its expression of patriotism.”

In 1996, the Glasgow Highland Games of Kentucky, awarded Colin an Artist in Residence Fellowship in Celtic music, enabling him to study, compose and record music about the early-century Scots who arrived in America bringing with them a wealth of culture. It was through the residency that Colin came to relocate to the United States and the Glasgow, Kentucky area.

As a solo artist, Colin touches every emotion with his enthusiastic, high-energy, professional and artistic performance, tailored to fit any occasion, Scottish, Irish, Folk, Schools or Workshops. His captivating repertoire of Traditional Celtic-American, bluegrass and nationally acclaimed original material, delivered with his powerful tenor voice, and fiery quick guitar together with irrepressible good humor and stories. This mixed with sing-along songs and even some unbelievable yodeling appealing to audiences of all ages.

More information about Colin Grant-Adams can be found at his webpage colingrant-adams.com. He will be performing at the Scottish Music Concert on Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday.
